Why Technology in Education Rocks in Virginia

Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE)

I remember when AT in Virginia was still in its emerging years.....desktop computers had just started arriving in the workplace, the Internet was working with BBS systems and the world wide web had yet to born. When we searched for AT resources to help kids or adults, often, we looked to national clearinghouses. Information was obtained through many phone calls, lots of letters, and lots of standard mail. But, it worked and, the services we hoped to have for those students seemed to happen.

How different things are today! We can search an instant-ready web, locate a specific blog or wiki, listen to a podcast, watch a webinar, find an online tutorial or course. The lightening speed of information allows us to share more, do more, and reach more.

There are a few online resources that may be of assistance to each of you....one through the VDOE TTAC's statewide system, TTAC Online, http://ttaconline.org. The other is an assistive technology blog at VCU TTAC, http://www.assistivetechnology.vcu.edu.

Do you know of others, do you have stories to share?
