Holidays in the Classroom

Well, it's beginning to look a lot like the holidays! My cooperating school is very against celebrating holidays in the classroom (to avoid offending anyone), but I've heard others take more of a toleration of all celebrations approach (which seems much more fun). Which stance do you find most common/agree with? Also-are there any online games or lessons that you've discovered that focus on the various holidays and promote toleration (while allowing kids to celebrate their traditions/share them… Continue

Security

Thanks again for the feedback thus far-it has been really helpful!

Another School of Ed student and I have been working on a technology module that focuses on Netvibes. When I was searching for examples of Netvibes in the classroom, I came upon a widget that allows for the use of a site like youtube in the classroom (because the teacher that reccommended it couldn't access youtube). Games

Thanks again for the feedback thus far!

There are three computers in each of my 5th grade practicum classrooms. When the students have choice time (and aren't taking AR tests), they often play subject-related games on those computers. We've looked at Food Force and PBS Kids, but what games have you found are short and content focused enough that they entertain kids while reinforcing what they've learned/teaching them new material in such a short amount of time (choice time lasts 15-30 minutes)?

Voice Thread

Thanks again for the feedback thus far-it has been really helpful!

This week our class was introduced to Voice Thread. It seems Voice Threads can be used for many classroom activities-maybe you could divide the class into groups for a debate and then have each side create and present a Voice Thread for the other side to comment on, have students share and explain short poems or stories they've written, publish student responses to various works/make story boards, or publish a test review compil… Continue

Diigo Toolbar/RSS Feeds

Hi again!

I posted this as a comment to my last post, but for the sake of generating more responses I figured I'd make a whole new post :)

I've been having a lot of difficulty downloading the diigo toolbar to make bookmarking things easier (a pop-up blocker comes up with an "edit options" box, and I've tried checking and unchecking things galore). Our school's IT wasn't sure what to do either. If there's a diigo expert out there-is there anything more I can do?

Also, with RSS feeds, I can't j… Continue
