About Marie

I am an Instructional Technology Coordinator (ITC) with the Department of Technology for Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Prior to becoming an ITC, I was a Computer Resource Specialist for eight years. In addition to my certification in elementary education, I am endorsed in gifted education and school administration. Teaching is second career for me–I graduated from Simmons College in Boston with a degree in communications. I worked many years as a journalist, photo-journalist and graphic designer. I am also a graduate of The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

My memberships include the Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). In 2008, I became certified in the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS*T) and I am a Discovery Educator Network (DEN) STAR educator. Finally, I am a Second Lifer! I am Mandie Mimulus in Second Life and you can usually find me hanging out on VSTE Island.

As an article in the current issue (May 2009) of ISTE’s Learning & Leading with Technology magazine highlights Virginia’s Instructional Technology Resource Teacher (ITRT) program, VSTE Island in Second Life is proud to present four ITRTs ~ Alfonso, Brad, David, and Frank ~ who form the Virginia Trekkers team.
