Regina, I hear a lot of folks weighing the two sides: time vs. a desire to be innovative. For anything, you have to weigh the pros and cons of any changes you make to your instruction. In terms of wikis and blogs, I'd say that setting those up wil...

Hello - I think technology can be very time consuming and intimidating. As a teacher who travels between two schools and leads two different choirs, I'm just trying to keep organized. I even have students take role. I love these ideas, I just wish...

Permissions for photo and video use in school districts

With the rapidly growing world of Web 2.0 and all it has to offer, we want to address the issue of teachers desiring to post examples of student work, pictures and videos on teacher websites. Some of our teachers are beginning to create vodcasts involving students and would like to be able to "safely" post them.
At this point none of our schools (nor our district website) uses pictures of "real" kids - they are all canned stock photos of students. What type of rules do your districts have concer… Continue

How does your district handle the audio accomodation throughout the school year?

Like many (all?) districts, we have students who take audio versions of the SOLs (as opposed to read-aloud versions). Our understanding is students with an audio accomodation for SOLs should also be taking audio versions of other tests throughout the school year and not having the tests read to them, which would coincide with the read-aloud accomodation. My question is: How does your district handle audio classroom tests? Are they simply being read aloud? Are you using some program to generate t… Continue

PocketMod

I just discovered PocketMod today. It wasn't until I printed one out, folded it up, tossed it on my desk and then took another look at it that I thought "oh!!! cool!!! this could be really useful". For those of you who have never seen PocketMod before - their slogan is the "free recyclable personal organizer" - designed to print up notes and carry them with you. There are many page templates, some of which can be customized with your own text. Drag… Continue

Excited about technology, but....

I went to the annual ETLC in Roanoke last week and have returned to work with the usual "post - conference high". Will I once again crash? It all started with NECC (San Diego, 2006)- I came back with all these cool ideas for everyone, but no one was interested. Then, I went to the VSTE conference in VA Beach in February - same song, verse two.

Will this time be verse three? Is it me? Is it the teachers? What's the deal. I think maybe I am just trying to hard? Perhaps this conference le

Yeah for extra credit! Thank you for all of your help in the wikis/blogs class. I didn't think I was behind the times, but technology is moving fast. As a younger teacher I'm realizing that I need to stay on top of technology.
