Games that supplement books

I recently found that they make 2 board games based off Eric Carle's books. There is also a card game based of the Hungry Catepillar. It helps teach about good and bad foods.
Do you use other games that are based off books?
What about large collaborative projects, like Flat Stanley?

I can't live without...?

After recieving such great feedback about whether than can be too much technology (which continue to discuss please) I would like to pose a follow-up question. Since it seems that there can be too much technology, what technology do you feel is most beneficial for schools to have? When looking for a job what types of technology will you be looking for in a school? What are make or breaks a deal so to speak?

If there was one piece of technology you use in the classroom that you couldn't live wit… Continue

Internet can provide a wealth of information and fun for students but it has its catches when being used in the classroom. I was at my school a few weeks ago when the censoring program failed for the whole school and suddenly kids could get on any website. Of course the students didn't mention this a… Continue

Foldables!

A colleague of mine resenting told me about a good organization tool called Foldables. She suggested using them for the Scientific Method or Layers of the Earth. I was wondering if other teachers have used Foldables? What types of lessons do you include them in? Are there other organization activities you often use?

Foldable Directions:
Use three pieces of white paper. Take the first piece and folded it almost in half (tall-wise)..but made the back piece about an inch longer so they can have a… Continue

Can there be too much technology?

I recently completed a technology inventory for a class and was very impressed with the amount of technology available at Matoaka. I have embedded my project so you can see how much is really available. I almost felt like there is too much technology. There are desktops in every class, laptops and desktops for every grade, Dana boards, and Quizdoms. Teachers don’t seem to really be able to use all of this technology. Does your school have similar technology? Are there a forms of technology Matoa… Continue
