Sarah R,

online textbooks

The schools at home, in Henrico County, Virginia, have laptops for all of the students in middle and high school which I think is a great program. However, something that has been implemented since I graduated a few years ago is online textbooks. They said that we would have all of our textbooks on CD-ROMs when we first got the laptops but that never happened so I think people forgot about it. Now, though, a lot of classes only have online textbooks instead of the big, heavy, hardback textbooks.… Continue

Sarah R,

SOL Review

At a local elementary school where I tutor, the students in one of the after school programs are there for remedial help so that they can pass the SOL. I thought this was a great program when I heard about it because it is free tutoring for the student (really helpful since many of the students come from low SES backgrounds and their families probably would not be able to afford extra help). The library has 2 computer cart… Continue

Sarah R,

teaching experience

After teaching my science circus yesterday in my first grade class, I feel like my eyes have been opened to the world of teaching even more. I'm not sure if I would ever complete a lesson like this again because it seemed like a lot of information crammed into a short amount of time for the students. During the c… Continue

Sarah R,

podcasts in the classroom

After exploring numerous podcasts and voice threads, I am very motivated and encouraged to have my cooperating teacher incorporate them into her classroom. The voice threads are especially intriguing to me because of how interactive they are. While creating my own voice thread, I was focused mainly on how to make it interactive for the grade level i was creating it for - kindergartners. I know my first grade class has a lot of children who get distracted easily and have to be re-focused frequent… Continue
