Student rights

In my social studies methods class, we have been discussing a lot what exactly do indvidual students have, the other students in the classroom, and teacher in respect to one another. What i am most interested in is seeing how these practices are actually implemented in the classroom. For example, in respect to the flag. No student has to recite the pledge of allegiance...but do you see these students still standing out of respect? What if other students don't want to stand because another studen… Continue

Second Life?!

On the last day of our technology class, we had a brief disccusion/overview of second life - and I am amazed/in shock/pretty confused as to what this exactly is! About how many people are using this? Is it mainly a fun/game type thing...or could a classroom all log in and meet and have discussions or do some type of activity? Are there ways for a person to branch out/search for others with common interests (ie: all teachers?) - PLEASE tell me more!

These first two days we have predominately just been testing him for placement purposes which appears to make it more difficult for him to be bonding with curious students. I really have two questions from this situation. First, do teachers out there have any advice as to how to gracefully introduce and incorporate a new student into the classroom… Continue

Lack of Technology

As many people have posted, I too just completed a technology inventory and was also amazed at the amount of technology in my cooperating school as I feel most people were. This makes me wonder about those schools, such as the one I grew up in, that are gravely lacking recent technology. Are there any teachers/bloggers out there who can share their experiences in school systems that do not have access to the latest technology? Does it seem to have a significant impact on the students? I would be… Continue
